“We were told that insecurity would end in two years. Official data, hard data from the government itself, speak of almost two thousand murders throughout the country with an average of 80 to 90 daily. High-impact crimes. So I think it is a failure. The daily cases of kidnapping, of extortion, do not end. Criminal groups have become empowered and this should worry us all. And even more so the incoming government,” said Guillermo Trujillo Álvarez, president of the evangelical network of Veracruz in a speech in which he evaluated the leadership of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) as president of Mexico.
In statements to the media, Trujillo said that the problem of insecurity is the most serious thing that the current administration will leave behind, with almost two thousand dead. “We have to demand and ask for help for us Mexicans, for the people of Veracruz. We have hope. We have faith. And we have confidence that with the new government things will change for the better.”
He also pointed out that "as an evangelical community and Christians, we ask God for the new government to do better. They should apply intelligence, justice, and there should be no more impunity."
He also said that the Gospel is preached in the churches, from which comes the call to repentance. “We call the criminal groups” to tell them, “repent now. Come closer to God. What awaits you is very serious. If you continue on this path, you will end badly. No one ends well on this path.”
Trujillo emphasized that a change of life for criminals is possible if they repent and surrender to Jesus Christ. “We share with them the love of God even so that they repent. God has an open path for them, as long as they repent and mend their ways.”
“We as citizens should not be satisfied with a little money a month. We can be a great country, a great State, as long as everyone fulfills their role,” he said.
Finally, he stressed that the reason for voting was to “have a good and better government in all areas, such as security, health care and other pressing issues.”
The president of the evangelical network of Veracruz had given his public support to president-elect Claudia Sheinbaum a week ago, pointing out that they hope and pray “that everything goes well for her [the president], because not everything has been achieved as the Fourth Transformation had said, there is still much to do, and in that I believe that she is very clear.”
He also called for unity and stressed that there was no unity under AMLO. “The call is for everyone to join together and for there to not be much division. Because there is a lot of division in the country. We hope that we all work in unity, because what matters is Mexico. It is the most important thing that we have to see: Mexico and its next generations, Mexico and its resources, Mexico and its wealth, that is the most important thing and I think that we should all join together.”
